I have no idea why, but I am in love with this photo. There’s nothing special about it – especially in regards to it being technically good (which it SO isn’t).
I suppose I love it because it takes me back to that moment 5 years ago. I remember explicitly sitting on the stone steps of the Kunjapuri Devi temple at the top of a foothill at the base of the Himalayas in Rishikesh. It was a four mile hike up the mountain side, and I was resting before I climbed what seemed like a never ending stairway to the worship site.
While I drank my little bottle of water and ate my cookies (I was hoping for a sugar rush) I heard some bells coming from behind me. At that exact moment the cast of clouds parted and this amazing, smiling, peaceful man walked by bathed in bright light. I had been digging through my backpack and just so happened to have my camera. I snapped this shot as he floated by in his perfect orange garb. I was so rude to have even taken it without asking permission because I didn’t know what type of spiritual or “purity” code he was following. Fortunately he didn’t mind and simply smiled and kept floating by.
This photo will forever remind me of the Kunjapuri Devi Temple, and it’s an experience I will always cherish.
