Bzzzzzzzy Bees | Los Angeles Nature Photographer

August 23, 2011

I adore bees. I’m sure I only feel that way because I’m not allergic to them, but I really do think they are some of the cutest insects out there.

Worker bees in particular are so dutifully doing their job that they barely even notice that I’m stalking them all the time. Terri calls me the “bee whisperer” because I will literally put my lens in the bee’s face, and they never move or flee. As a matter of fact, I would even go so far as to say that these little buggers actually pose. Huh. Who knew bees were such hams?

Here are a few pieces from my bee collection. Hopefully if you have a fear of bees, this will warm you up a little. I mean look at these little faces. Are they not cute?! I dare you to look at this and not say “Yes Gen. You’re SOOOOO right – like always. Bees ARE cute!” Ok so I’m pushing it with the “like always” part. Seriously though, look at these fuzzy lil’ creatures…

These bee shots are amazing! What kind of lens do you use?

I use a 100mm Macro lens (Canon). It’s a fantastic lens. I use it for my flower shots as well. If you don’t already have a macro lens, I highly recommend it.
